Charles Edward "Buzz" Copenhaver

The family of Charles “Buzz” Edward Copenhaver of Freeland is saddened to announce his passing on October 16, 2026, at the age of 83.

Buzz worked at McCormick & Company for most of his career. He enjoyed eating steamed crabs, working in his yard, fishing, going to the gym, riding his bike, and walking on the hike and bike trail. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and taking trips to the beach. He especially enjoyed sharing stories about the good old days.

Buzz is survived by his sister, Mary Helman; his daughter, Kimberly Whipperman; his grandsons, Zachary Whipperman, Evan Whipperman, and Dylan Decker; and his three great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nancy Copenhaver; his daughter, Shelley Decker; and his brothers, William Copenhaver Sr. and Quentin Copenhaver Jr.

A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Middletown Cemetery, Freeland, MD with Rev. Melissa McDade officiating.

Arrangements are being handled by Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care in New Freedom.
