On Sunday, December 23, 2018, Charles D. Frey, 87, passed away at Country Meadows-Leader Heights in York.He was husband to the late Donna L. (Martin) Frey.Charles was born on September 14, 1931 in Glen Rock to the late Percy R. and Verva V. (Gerbrick) Frey.After graduating high school, Charles served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War Era.He was an independent auctioneer, and was the auctioneer for the New Freedom Centennial Celebration.He was also employed and retired from ACCO of York.Charles was an active member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Freedom, where he had taught Sunday school and was the church treasurer for several years.In his spare time, he enjoyed playing tennis and took great pride in growing and taking care of his garden. Charles is survived by his children, Douglas D. Frey and wife Carolyn of Wasilla, AK, and Deborah L. Payne and husband Charles of York; four grandchildren, Charles D. Frey, Jeffrey A. Frey and wife Kelsey, Corbin J. Rinehart and wife Stephanie, and Andrew M. Rinehart and wife Jazmine; and three great-grandchildren, Rhett, Rowan and Carson Rinehart.He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; and siblings, Gerald Frey, Devona Seitz, James Frey, Norma Rehmeyer, and Joan Weikle. The family wants to extend a special Thank You to the staff of Country Meadows for their compassionate care given to Charles over the past six years. A public viewing will be from 7pm to 9pm on Thursday, December 27 at Hartenstein Funeral and Cremation Care, Inc., 19 S. Main St., Stewartstown.A funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday, December 28 at Hartenstein Funeral and Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom.Interment will follow in New Freedom Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Animal Rescue, 2 Heritage Farm Dr., New Freedom, PA 17349.
