On February 12, 2017, C. Arthur Hildebrand, 94, passed away at home with his family by his side. He was the husband of Betty (Godfrey) Hildebrand for 63 years. A public visitation will be from 12 p.m. until a memorial service begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 18 at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. Inurnment will follow in Joseph Giesey Memorial Cemetery, Shrewsbury. "Art" was born October 16, 1922 in Stewartstown to the late Charles H. and Grace E. (Rehmeyer) Hildebrand. He was a life-long farmer and also worked second shift maintenance at McCrory's Distribution Center in York. He drove his own school bus and transported children to and from Winterstown Elementary. He enjoyed hunting, golfing (making 2 holes-in-one), bowling, croquet, making homemade ice cream and playing cards (500 and pinochle were his favorites). He is survived by his wife; five children, Wayne and wife, Elaine, Daryl and wife, Peggy, Lyle and wife, Tracey, Tanya Hildebrand and Loren and wife, Lori; seven grandchildren; one step-grandchild; eight great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis Hess; sister-in-law, Doris Rehmeyer and husband, Carroll; brother-in-law, Donald Godfrey. He is preceded in death by his parents; two step-grandchildren; and three brothers, Elwood, Quinton and Clair. The family requests that CASUAL DRESS ATTIRE be worn to the services.
