Charles A. Meinecke, 87, of Freeland, Maryland passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 24, 2025. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late William and Frances (Zacharda) Meinecke. In 1956, he met the love of his life, Diana B. (Collins) Meinecke. They lived together inseparable for 68 years.
He is survived by his wife, Diana; two daughters, Karen Lynn Riley and Cindy C. Meadowcroft (Bill); three granddaughters, Jennifer Lleras (Jaime), Lauren Robinson (Chris), and Randi Bulkley (Ben); grandson, Tom Meadowcroft; great granddaughters & great grandsons, Delia and Lettie, Diego and Wade; great grand-dogs, Molly and Albert.
Charles was predeceased by his son Christopher Steven Meinecke, father William, mother Francis, four brothers and one sister, Jim Meinecke (Joan), John Meinecke, Bill Meinecke (Beverly), Norma Lang, and Edward Meinecke (Sandra).
As a young man, Charles served as a Marine in the Marine Reserves from 1956-1963. After the Marines, he began his career working as a BG&E lineman. During his tenure at BG&E, he held various roles for over 38 years. He retired as a beloved supervisor to many. Charles was adored as a father, grandfather, and great grandfather, who dedicated many years of his life to helping others and in service to his faith and community. He was a long-time member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church where he was head minster for the church greeters, attendance coordinator, member of the Knights of Columbus, head of the parish volunteers, usher at the 11 AM Mass, secretary for the Parish council where he attended every Parish council meeting, and worked as a bookkeeper for Our Lady of Grace school.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing Friday, August 1 from 2-4 and 6-8 at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, PA 17349. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, August 2 at 10 AM at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church 18310 Middletown Rd., Parkton, MD 21120. Interment will immediately follow Mass in Moreland Memorial Park in Parkville, MD.
After the interment, the family invites all of those that loved Charles to a luncheon at Our Lady of Grace Hall at 12:30 PM to share a lifetime of love and memories.
