Charles Nicholas “Nick” Moss was born on October 24, 1947, in Baltimore, Maryland. He passed away unexpectedly on February 15, 2026, in New Freedom, Pennsylvania due to complications from the devastating disease of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, the same disease that took the lives of his mom and his two brothers.
Nick was the son of the late Urban Henry Moss and Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Moss (née Haggerson), who both preceded him in death in 1988. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Jon Robinson Moss and Urban “Urbie” Moss, Jr., who both passed in the early 1990s, and his sister, Ursula “Sue” Marian Morhard (née Moss), who passed in 2023.
Nick was an engineer by profession and worked for HP Electronics for almost 30 years, negotiating contracts and generally bossing people around. He proudly (yet briefly) served his country as a member of the Army National Guard Reserves. He utilized his service in the best way that he knew how: belonging to several VA Legions over the years.
In his very much unliked (but very well deserved) retirement, Nick volunteered with Meals on Wheels through the South Central York County Senior Center, reflecting his commitment to helping others in his community. He was also involved in many committees in his Forest Lakes neighborhood community, from which he refused to move to Maryland, despite the pleadings of his very practical and intelligent daughter. Nick also was a strong advocate of rescuing geriatric dogs, and gave many a loving home throughout his retirement years.
Nick is survived by his daughter, Lindsay V.R. Moss, Esq., and his grandson, Finnegan Willis Moss. He will be remembered for his crazy trivia knowledge, stubbornness, and utilizing his swiss army knife to carve pieces to fit while doing engineering kits with Finn. He rarely missed a weekend (in eight years) of driving down to Maryland to spend time with his beloved grandson, Finn.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at The Church of the Good Shepherd, 1401 Carrollton Avenue, Towson, Maryland 21204. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Lab Rescue LRCP, P.O. Box 1814, Annandale, VA 22003, from which Nick adopted several beloved geriatric dogs, or to Meals on Wheels through the South Central York County Senior Center, 150 E. Main Street, New Freedom, PA 17349, for which Nick volunteered for years delivering meals to the elderly and disabled population in his community.
Above all, Nick was a devoted father to his daughter, Lindsay. And the greatest joy of his life was being “Poppop” to Finn.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
