Charles E. “Charlie” Stroup, Sr., 70, died Friday, July 8, 2016, in York, PA. Formerly of White Hall, MD, he was the loving husband of Patricia (Mariani) Stroup and they celebrated 51 years of marriage in August 2015. There will be a viewing from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, July 15, at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, PA. Afuneral liturgy will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 16, at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, with Rev. Sylvan P. Capitani officiating. Burial will be in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, Timonium, MD. Born November 27, 1945, in Cheverly, MD, Charlie was the son of the late Gerald J. Stroup, Sr. and Catherine (Beckett) Stroup. He was a union sheet metal worker with Local 102 of Washington, D.C. and Local 100 of Baltimore, MD, retiring in 2005. He was an avid Redskins fan and enjoyed crabbing. Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Roxane E. Stidham, fiancée of James Brown of Hanover, Charles E. Stroup Jr., husband of Tonya of Stevensville, MD, Cindy Gover, wife of Timothy of Dallastown, and Leah Miller, wife of Scott of New Freedom; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild; three siblings, Daniel W. Stroup of Hyattsville, MD, Mary Etta Liller of Annapolis, MD, and Dianne (Bitty) Schafer of Edgewater, MD. Charlie was preceded in death by three siblings, Jacqueline Ganey, Gerald J. Stroup, Jr., and William D. Stroup.
