Doris E. Leas, 84, died at her home in North Carolina on Wednesday, May 10, 2017. She was the widow of Paul E. Leas, Jr. There will be a viewing on Sunday, May 14, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St, New Freedom. The service will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, May 15, at Grace Bible Church, 18 W. Main St., New Freedom with Rev. Randy Miller, Rev. Adam Burtt, and Rev. David Brown officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Mummerts Meeting House Cemetery, Mummerts Church Road, East Berlin. Born October 5, 1932, in York, Doris was the first child of the late J. Melvin and Georgia (Gallatin) Jacobs. She worked at the Hanover Newspaper where she designed and assembled business ads, at the former AMP, at the New Freedom Post Office, and owned and operated the Glenville Farm Center. She smocked dresses for her granddaughters, was an avid gardener, and enjoyed creating crafts and projects for family and friends. Her great loves were God and her family. Doris leaves behind two sons, Byron E. Leas and his wife, Nadine of Chesapeake Beach, MD, and Mark E. Leas and his wife, Cathy of Loganville; two daughters, Wendy S. Brickner and her husband, Michael of Rocky Mount, NC, and Amy E. Miller and her husband, Randy of Flagstaff, AZ; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three siblings, David Jacobs of York, Eileen Smith of Thomasville, and Philip Jacobs of Wrightsville.
