Dr. Bill W. Benson, 69, son of the late Daniel and Hilda Benson of Hampton, Arkansas, died October 25, 2024, at his farm in New Freedom, Pennsylvania. Bill, a long-time veterinarian in the Baltimore area, dedicated his life to the care of animals.
Bill’s love of animals blossomed early in his youth as he grew up with his sister Nancy and brothers John and Danny in south Arkansas. After graduating with honors from the Tuskegee School of Veterinary Medicine in Auburn, Alabama, Bill practiced in Reisterstown, Maryland, for forty years. He owned the Advanced Veterinary Complex where he was the chief veterinarian. He developed a large, loyal clientele who depended on his expertise and compassion. Known by his clients as “Bulldog Benson” and “the greyhound guru,” Bill also specialized in orthopedic surgery for large dogs.
Bill was an avid sports fan and collector who loved attending Ravens and Orioles games. The owner of Tiburon Thoroughbreds in New Freedom, he also enjoyed breeding and racing thoroughbreds.
Memorials may be made to MidAtlantic Horse Rescue, P.O. Box 407, Chesapeake City, MD 21915.
