Dwight J. “Whitey” Wilt, Sr., 68, of Seven Valleys, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, August 27, 2025. Born in Hanover, he was a son of the late Leroy Edward and Grace Virginia (Winand) Myers. He was the husband of Shirley M. (Sweitzer) Wilt.
Whitey was a 1974 graduate of York VoTech. After graduating, he joined the Army and served for two years. He then went to work for various mason contractors for over 40 years, was a sexton for Bethlehem Steltz Church, and mowed for Susquehannock High School. Whitey enjoyed collecting baseball cards and reading the newspaper. He liked watching NASCAR and loved to read; especially old westerns.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; two sons, Dwight “DJ” Wilt, Jr., and Matthew Wilt; one granddaughter, Georgia Wilt; three siblings, Lowell Wilt (Lisa), Virginia “Ginny” Houseman (Kevin), and Phyllis Sigrist (Jay); and his father, Clayton “Pappy” Myers.
A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 1-4 pm at William Kain Park, 274 Hess Farm Rd., York, PA 17407, in the Bass Pavilion. Please dress casually and bring a lawn chair. Military Honors will be presented at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the York County SPCA.
Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, PA 17349 is assisting the family with arrangements.
