Elizabeth Jane Thomas

On Sunday, October 7, 2018, Elizabeth J. (Underwood) Thomas, 83, passed away at Hanover Hall surrounded by her loving family.She was the loving wife of the late Samuel J. Thomas, with whom she shared 59 years of marriage, before his passing in 2009. Elizabeth was born on April 28, 1935 in Montgomery County, VA to the late Clyde W. and Nellie M. (Pinkard) Underwood.She was a member of Oakland Church in Freeland, MD.Elizabeth loved listening to bluegrass music, playing BINGO, taking trips to the casino, going to cookouts, dancing and bird watching.She will be most remembered for the love she had for her family and how much she enjoyed spending time with them. She is survived by her 7 children, James Thomas, Sr. and his wife Victoria, Elizabeth (Tootie) Fuller and husband Terry, Barbara Dodson, Linda Creamer and husband Mike, Daniel Thomas and wife Risie, David Thomas and wife Karen, and Shirley Swift and husband Bob; 22 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Edward Underwood and his wife Barbara, and Nancy Rivenbark and her husband Ivy. A public viewing will be held from 6pm until 8pm on Thursday, October 11 at Hartenstein Funeral and Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, where a funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday, October 12.Interment will follow in the First Baptist Cemetery of Hereford, MD.Pastor Terry Kirk will officiate.
