Evelyn Mae Stoner (Brown)

Evelyn M. Stoner, 75, died Tuesday February 7, 2017 at York Hospital. She was the wife of Lanny Ray Stoner, Sr. They celebrated 58 years of marriage in May 2016. Viewings will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 10 and on Saturday, February 11 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. G. Edwin Zeiders and the Rev. Steven A. Schmuck officiating. Burial will follow at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, York. Born February 17, 1941 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Mary E. (Taylor) Brown. Evelyn was a member of Red Lion Bible Church, a former Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Teacher and choir member. She also was a member of the Equine Meadows Choir for many years. Evelyn loved her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed music, singing, dancing and was avid about her house cleaning. All her life she was a giver to anyone in need. She retired in 1998 from Becton Dickinson & Co. after 13 years of service. In addition to her husband, Evelyn is survived by a son, Lanny R. Stoner, Jr. and his wife, Christine of Stewartstown, two daughters, Tamara "Tammy" Runkle and her husband, Troy of Red Lion, Wendy Jo Simpson and her husband, Timothy of New Freedom; seven grandchildren, Lauren Miles, Andrew Stoner, Nathan Simpson, Keith Simpson, Tyler Runkle, Ashley Stoner and Mason Simpson; six great-grandchildren, Laney Mae, Miles, Olivia, Brady, Jackson and Tatum. She also is survived by a brother, David D. Brown of Stewartstown; and two sisters, her twin sister, Ellen Vanover and Christina E. Barnes, both of New Freedom. She was predeceased by a brother, Gerald E. Brown.
