Frances L. (Sweitzer) Fuhrman, 77, died Monday, June 6, 2016 at Homewood at Plum Creek, Hanover. She was the wife of the late Joel Jacob Fuhrman. Viewing will be held from 10 to 12 noon on Friday, June 10 at Shrewsbury Assembly of God, 234 N. Main St., Shrewsbury with the funeral service to begin at Noon. Pastor Jason Tourville officiating. Burial will follow at Joseph Giesey Memorial Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Born January 1, 1939 in Glen Rock, Frances was the daughter of the late Samuel K. Sweitzer , Sr. and Mary Julia (Sterner) Sweitzer. Frances graduated from Susquehannock High School in 1956. During high school she was active in the orchestra, playing bass violinist. She was chosen to play in the All Conference High School Orchestra in Boston, Mass. in 1955. In 1956, Frances represented York County at the State Cherry Pie Baking Competition in Erie. She graduated from Juanita College in Huntingdon in 1960. Frances taught Home Economics at Eastern York County School District for 36 years. She was raised in the Church of the Brethren. For many years Frances and Joel were very active in the Shrewsbury Assembly of God. They taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and Frances played in the Bell Choir. At the time of her former husband, Joel's passing, January 19, 2014, they had been married 53 years. Frances is survived by a sister, Gladys M. Smith and her husband, David W. Sr.; a brother, Samuel K. Sweitzer, Jr. and his wife, Kathy, five nephews, David W. Smith, Jr., Dennis E. Smith Sweitzer, Timothy L. Sweitzer, Brent A. Sweitzer, Mark Bricker; two nieces, Sheila Brodbeck and Wynne Allison; eight great-nieces, three great-nephews, three great-great nieces and five great-great nephews; also a dear friend, Lydia Hack and the Degarmo family.
