On Sunday, June 14, 2026 Gary G. Hostetter, Sr. passed away at his home in Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania. Gary was born at York Hospital on June 1, 1938 to his late parents Paul and Alice (Kramer) Hostetter. Gary is survived by his wife Patricia, with whom he cherished their 68 years of marriage. Also surviving Gary are his sons Lance and Gary (Jr.) Hostetter, Grandchildren Jeremy, Luke, Kelly, and Stephanie Hostetter, and 5 Great-Grandchildren. Gary is also survived by his brother Thomas Hostetter and sister Brenda Roop.
After graduation from the then fledgling Susquehannock High School, Gary enlisted in the United States Army in 1956. Gary was proud to serve his country and earned Honors of Distinction including the Good Conduct Medal and the Parachutist Badge. Following his military service, Gary acquired the necessary knowledge and skill to become the premier watchmaker and Jewelry designer he was famous for at his family-owned Hostetters Jewelry on Hill Street in Shrewsbury. He retired in 2002 after 40 years in the jewelry business. Gary was also a member of the Shrewsbury Masonic Lodge #423 for over 50 years. As a hobby and means of relaxation, Gary developed a passion for lathe woodworking. He created many artistic wooden bowls and enjoyed attending craft shows.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing/visitation at Hartenstein Funeral and Cremation Care, Inc. (24 N. Second St., New Freedom, PA 17349) on Friday, June 19, 2026 from 12 noon to 1:00pm. A Funeral service to remember Gary will begin at 1:00pm at the funeral home.
