George A. Momberger, 82, died Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Elaine (Hannay) Momberger for 61 years. George was born April 1, 1934 in Albany, N.Y. He was the son of the late George C. and Emma (Fahd) Momberger. He graduated from Albany High School in 1952. He was a member of the Order of DeMolay, where he became Chevalier. He was customer service manager and later the station manager in many different cities for 16 years with Mohawk Airlines, and one year for Allegheny Airlines, after the two airlines merged. He also worked for Altair Airlines for nine years where he was the director of customer services and reservations. Then, prior to their closing, he was employed at Hechinger's Home Improvement Store in Glen Burnie, Md. George was in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for over 25 years. George was assigned to Flotilla 13-08 in New Jersey where he became commander in 1980. He was also a member of Flotilla 01-04 in Baltimore, Maryland where he earned Auxiliarist of the Year after returning to his command after suffering a heart attack in 2002. In addition to his wife, George is survived by his children, George M. Momberger, Paul E. Momberger and wife, Kerri, Lisa M. Greipp and husband, Ralph, and Karen E. Braun and husband, Tim; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brothers, Richard and Terry Momberger. A public viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 19 S. Main Street, Stewartstown. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 p.m. in Stewartstown Cemetery. Pastor Larry W. Parlett is officiating.
