Jerry E. Schimming

July 16, 1942 — December 14, 2015

Jerry Eugene Schimming, 73, passed away Monday, December 14, 2015. He was born in Hammond, Ind., on July 16, 1942, and came to DeLand in 2012 from Shrewsbury. He served six years with the U.S. Marine Corps. Jerry retired as a detective with 30 years of service from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. He was a member of Stewartstown Baptist Church in Pennsylvania and he enjoyed baseball, carpentry, working with his hands, and camping. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Judy; sons, Jay Schimming of Florida and Jeff Schimming of California; brother, Francis Schimming of Pennsylvania; and grandchildren, Shelton and Kinnzey Schimming. There will be a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 2016, at Stewartstown Baptist Church, 18631 Five Forks Road, Stewartstown, followed by an 11 a.m. service at the church with full military honors by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Associate Pastor Dan Baldwin will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bel Air Memorial Gardens, Bel Air, Md. J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 19 S. Main St., Stewartstown, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, Radnor Station Building 2, Suite 320, 290 King of Prussia Road, Radnor, PA 19087.
