Jessie R. Allen (Pigg)

Jessie R. Allen, 79, died on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Select Specialty Hospital in York. She was the loving wife of the late William J. "Bill" Allen, Sr. for 57 years. Jessie was born July 19, 1936 in Chatham, Va. to the late Lysander Pigg and Teresha (Abshire) McDonald. A public viewing will be held from 11 a.m. until a funeral service begins at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24 at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 19 S. Main St., Stewartstown. Interment will follow in Centre Presbyterian Cemetery, New Park. Rev. Katie Brantner will officiate. Jessie was an accomplished and talented artist. She loved music and used to be a singer with a family gospel group. Jessie had also been a Christian music leader. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, nature, swimming in her pond and loved the ocean and the mountains. She is survived by her children, Terry Smith and her husband, Chas, Bill Allen and his wife, Donna, and Sandy Allen and her husband, Mark Winkler; one sister, Joann Brenneman; one sister-in-law, Helen Pigg; five grandchildren, Drew Allen, Tara J. Bolinski, Lacey Lanius, Josh Smith and Sarah Allen; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Henry W. Pigg. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory are recommended to the American Lung Association, 3001 Old Gettysburg Rd., Camp Hill, PA 17011.
