John Jacob O’Keefe II, 77, of Lewisberry, PA, entered God’s eternal care on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Yorkview Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Born March 13, 1949, in York, PA, John was a son of John Jacob and Anna Mary (Ryer) O’Keefe.
John was a graduate of Susquehannock High School class of 1967. Following high school, John attended Penn State College and earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Design Engineering Technology in 1971. He worked as a mechanical engineer first at AMP, then later also at Packard Electric in Ohio, and lastly, at Tyco which is where he retired from in 2012.
John was known to be attentive and meticulous, possibly due to his father being a township supervisor. He was handy and thorough with duties, and helpful to those who knew him, in many ways. John looked after his family and friends, and was actively involved in their lives, always being a helpful support. This included caring for his aging parents at the end of their lives, as well as being the primary caregiver for his brother Joe, when his health was failing. Though he didn’t have his own children, John was involved with all the young people in his family and in his circle of friends and neighbors.
In his free time, John took much pride in caring for and maintaining his property, which included thorough organization of all his things. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing backyard cornhole, backgammon with his coworkers, and poker with his poker group.
John is survived by his siblings, Judith Cline and her husband Michael of Shrewsbury, Joan O’Keefe of York, Josephine D’Agostino of Macungie, Jermone O’Keefe of Glen Rock, and Julia Hunter and her husband Kerry of Glen Rock. John was preceded in death by two siblings, Jeanne O’Keefe and Joseph O’Keefe.
