John Milton Welling

John Milton Welling, 85, proud Maryland resident, born March 25 1941 , went to heaven June 5 2026.

Survived by his loving wife, of 54 years , Marilyn Rose, his son John Frank ( Sherry), daughter Valerie Elizabeth (Ryan), Grandchildren J.R, Ashley and grand dogs Jolene Pearl and Larry James.

He was one of eight children, raised in Baltimore, Maryland.

In heaven, John will be joining his mother , Dorothy (Fick), father James Ray, brothers Jim, Don, and sister Ruth. His best friend Danny Openshaw will be sure to have coffee and good conversation waiting for John.

Education and hard work were important to John. He earned his master’s degree (studying at University of Maryland and Loyola) and served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

A proud small business owner in the Hereford zone, John owned gift shops, video rental businesses and a bike shop. Mr. Welling also did substitute teaching and worked in sales. John authored a book “Crab Town USA”. He enjoyed a good party with family, friends and good food. John was a wonderful communicator. A man with a huge heart, he adored animals and children. He had the kindest way with them. All animals loved John and could always count on him to share his snacks. John loved crabbing in the bay and a good crab feast, because it was a time to see good friends and family.

Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to our special helpers from Second family, our neighbors, family and friends for being there to support John and Marilyn, especially these last 2 years.

A celebration of life will be on June 13 2026 2-6 PM, at the American Legion Parkton, MD post 256.

In lieu of flowers, friends and family may donate to Animal Rescue Inc , New Freedom, PA or The American Legion, Parkton MD.
