June Elisabeth (Johannsen) Utara, 88, died Tuesday evening, May 13th, 2025, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was the wife of the late Alfred "Al" D. Utara, whom she was married to for 51 years on June 18, 1960.
Born January 6, 1937 in New York City, NY, she was the daughter of the late Nis and Mathilde (Vogel) Johannsen. June was a graduate of Bryant High School. She was a homemaker and worked as a secretary and administrative assistant for multiple churches. She loved her family most of all. As the wife of a US Coast Guard Commander, June raised her family in diverse regions including New York, New Jersey, Florida, Hawaii and Maryland. Upon her retirement in 2002, June and her husband moved to Pennsylvania to be close to their daughter and youngest grandchildren.
She is survived by her three sons: David A. Utara and his wife Michelle, Mark R. Utara and his wife Brenda, and Christian J. Utara and his wife Petra; one daughter, Dawn M. Brusse and her husband Jay; grandchildren, Ryan, Jeramy, Ashleigh, Krystal, Luke, Ian and Colin; great-grandchildren, Micah, Elyon, Jaden, Noah, Lily, Emma, Natalie June, Ransom, and Jubilee. She was preceded in death by her sister Shirley Johannsen.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, PA. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
