Larry D. Orwig

Larry D. Orwig, 74, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2015 at his home. He was the husband of Joan (Mundis) Orwig. A viewing will be held from Noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. A Funeral Service will follow at the Mortuary at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. E. Gordon Ross officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Stewartstown. Larry was born May 3, 1941, Tolna, York County, a son of the late David and Lillian (Winemiller) Orwig. Larry was a 1960 graduate of Kennard Dale High School. He was employed for 38 years with the former Weyerhaeuser Corp. of New Freedom. Larry was well known in the community. He volunteered at the SpiriTrust Lutheran Shrewsbury, formerly known as the Shrewsbury Lutheran Home and had been employed at Saubel's Market in Shrewsbury. Larry and Joan celebrated 53 years of marriage in June. They enjoyed traveling, going to yard sales, purchasing and selling antiques. Survivors include two sons, Toby L. Orwig and his wife, Michelle of Stewartstown and Scott L. Orwig and his companion, Ashley Haugh of Seven Valleys; four grandchildren, Kev, Erin, Chelsea and Brittney; and six nieces. He was predeceased by a twin brother, Garry Orwig. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt.
