On Sunday, May 14, 2017, Loretta C. (Toolan) Simon, 95, passed away at SpiriTrust Lutheran in Shrewsbury. She was the wife of Charles F. Simon for 40 years. Public viewing will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 18 at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 19. Interment will follow in Parkwood Cemetery, Baltimore. Loretta was a "Rosie the Riveter" during WWII, where she was responsible for riveting various parts of the plane. She was also an active member of the American Rosie the Riveter Association. She worked at Westinghouse in Baltimore before retiring in 1982 after 25 years of service. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing, playing cards and camping. Surviving her is her husband Charles; three children, Elizabeth Fuhr and her late husband, Charles, Donna Campbell, and Harry Kirby and wife, Barbara; grandchildren, Mark, Craig, Michael, Sean, David and Eric; and seven great-grandchildren.
