Mary E. Knecht (Ebberts)

Mary E. Knecht, 93, died Sunday, May 8, 2016, at ManorCare Health Services-South, York. She was the loving wife of Martin J. “Ducky” Knecht, Jr., and they celebrated 63 years of marriage in January 2016. A viewing will be held from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm Saturday, May 14, at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 19 S. Main St., Stewartstown. The funeral service will be at 2:30 pm Saturday at St. John (Sadler’s) Lutheran Church, 2916 Sadler’s Church Road, Stewartstown, PA 17363. The Rev. Dr. E. Gordon Ross will be officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. Born July 6, 1922, in Baltimore, MD, Mary was the daughter of the late Charles Ernest Ebberts, Sr. and Margaret Mary (Sullivan) Ebberts. She worked as an office clerk in clothing manufacturing and retail. A member of St. John (Sadler’s) Lutheran Church, she was an avid reader and enjoyed eating steamed crabs. Surviving are two children: Martin J. Knecht, III, and his wife Lori, of Fawn Grove; and Geraldine M. Morrow, of Stewartstown; 3 grandchildren, Thomas E. Morrow, Timothy C. Morrow, and Jessica K. Knecht Lopez; one great grandchild, Trent Martin Lopez. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Todd J. Morrow; a brother, Charles E. Ebberts, Jr., and a sister, Joan E. Ebberts.
