Michael “Eggy” “Pop” Gerard Aherne, Sr.

Michael “Eggy” “Pop” Gerard Aherne, Sr., 70, of Shrewsbury, passed away on October 17, 2025. Born in County Cork, Ireland, he was the son of the late Philip Aherne and Hanorah (Geary) Aherne. He is survived by his wife Cindy Simms Aherne of Shrewsbury, son Michael Aherne, Jr. (Monica) and daughter Kelsi Gornick (Brandon), grandchildren Branson, Lily, Hope and Mykayla, and sister Mary Streeter (Scott).

He was preceded in death by his son Philip Aherne and brother Christopher Aherne.

He worked in facility maintenance at the University of Maryland Medical Center. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Hartenstein Funeral and Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second Street, New Freedom, Pennsylvania, 17349. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
