Michael Joseph Dantoni, 69, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026. Michael was born in Baltimore, Maryland, to Ms. Barbara "Bobbi" Dantoni-Quinn and the late Joseph Dantoni.
In 1968, Mike was placed at the Rosewood Center, where he met his lifelong best friend, Robert (Bert). Their friendship began there and continued when they both joined the Penn Mar Human Services family in 1984. Mike was one of the original residents of Penn Mar's residential homes where he lived alongside his housemates Bert and Morris. Mike called several Penn Mar homes home over the years before making his final move to his forever home on West Liberty Road in White Hall, MD. Mike and Bert remained the very best of friends until Bert’s passing in 2023. Their bond was truly special, and we find comfort that Bert was there to welcome Mike at the gates of heaven.
Mike was truly an Italian stallion. He was always dressed to impress and always could be found rocking a cool pair of sunglasses. He loved spending time with his friends and was well known for charming everyone around him, especially the ladies. Mike had a contagious smile, a great sense of humor, and genuinely loved to laugh and have fun. Some of Mike's favorite pastimes were drinking coffee and coke, eating good food (especially spaghetti), sharing laughs, and making memories with the people he loved. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, kayaking, dancing, playing cards, relaxing outside, and never passed up the chance to attend a good cookout. Mike also had a special love for horses and horseback riding, where he proudly earned the nickname "Handsome Jack." Mike also participated in several Special Olympics events throughout his life. Music was another one of Mike's great joys. He loved attending live performances and especially enjoyed Country and Classic Rock. But if there was one thing that could always capture Mike's attention, it was a good game show. He loved them all, but his favorites were the classics, Match Game, Password, The Price Is Right, Press Your Luck, Card Sharks, and the early years of Wheel of Fortune where he especially enjoyed watching his beloved Vanna White. Watching his favorite shows and his favorite host, Steve Harvey, brought him endless joy and was one of the simple pleasures that made Mike smile.
Mike had a deep love for his Mom. It was evident in the excitement on his face whenever anyone talked about her and in the pure excitement he felt whenever he got to talk to her or spend time with her. Their bond was truly special. A favorite memory of Mike is watching Mike confidently wheel himself around in his wheelchair using just one foot, always determined to get where he wanted to go. He also had his designated VIP seat right in front of the television, ready to enjoy one of his favorite game shows. Mike will be most remembered for his smile. It was warm, and absolutely contagious. His smile had a way of lighting up a room and bringing joy to everyone around him. Mike's presence, laughter, and unforgettable personality will be deeply missed, but the memories he leaves behind will continue to bring smiles to those who were fortunate to know and love him.
Mike’s family would like thank his incredible day program and residential staff at Penn Mar, who made sure his final weeks were filled with love, joy, and adventure. They took him to visit a horse farm, enjoy lunches at Cracker Barrel, stop for custard at Rita's, shopping trips, movies, a Mary Poppins play, trips to the Senior Center and going to lunch bunch. They tirelessly ensured that Mike felt loved, cared for, and celebrated. He was truly doted on and spoiled, and for that, his family is forever grateful.
Mike is survived by his mother, Ms. Barbara "Bobbi" Dantoni-Quinn; his 2 brothers, Tim Dantoni and Skip Dantoni and his wife Gina; Uncle, Jim Diggs; Aunt, Betsy Diggs; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Dantoni. He is also survived by his best friend and roommate, John.
