Nancy Hopkins

SHREWSBURY 

Nancy M. Hopkins, 92, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2026, at SpiriTrust on Sprenkle in York. 

Nancy was married to John P. Hopkins, who preceded her in death in 2013. 

A graveside memorial service will be held for family and a few friends at the New Freedom Cemetary on April 11th at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements are being made through Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc. 

Nancy was born April 26, 1933 in Lansing, MI, daughter of the late Einar A. and Evah (Spencer) Hedlund. 

Mrs. Hopkins graduated, with honors and a B.S. in English, from Michigan State University in 1957. She also took a year of nurses training at Henry Ford Nursing School 1951-52. Nancy was an elementary school teacher from 1956-1962. She married in 1959 and had 3 children. She later worked as a librarian at Ingham County Library from 1972-1975, was a secretary for the American Cancer Society in 1980, was a library aide at Kirkwood Hwy Library from 1983-1986, teacher’s aid at southern High School in Glen Rock, PA from 1987-1990 and volunteered at various libraries, churches, hospitals, and most recently at SpiriTrust Lutheran in Shrewsbury. 

Nancy is survived by her three children, David (Wei) Hopkins of Lexington, MA, with daughter Jenny (Muazz); great grandson Elias Hopkins Salvager, Andy Hopkins, with 2 daughters Lauren and Sarah Hopkins, Susan (Scott) van Tonningen, with 3 stepsons Ian, Scott, and James van Tonningen, 2 sisters-in-law Judith Hedlund and Margarget Hedlund, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Nancy was predeceased by two brothers, Howard and Dave Hedlund. 

She will be remembered as a steadfast disciple of Jesus Christ, a loving wife and mother, a committed teacher, and a dedicated volunteer. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial donations to be made to Mason Dixon Baptist Church, 713 Campbell Road, New Freedom, PA 17349.
