Nancy L. Mays

1934 — 2025

Parkton, MD

Our beloved mother, Nana, and cherished friend, Nancy Lee Michael Mays passed away on October 17, 2025, at the age of 90.

Nancy was born in Baltimore, Maryland on December 17, 1934 and was the daughter of Edna Richards and John Michael.

After graduating from high school, she worked in many positions, lastly as a legal assistant at the Farm Credit Banks of Baltimore. Nancy also continued working on the family farm.

Nancy was an active member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church and you could find her every Sunday on the same pew. Nancy was a Sunday school teacher, and sang in the church choir. She helped with church suppers, flea markets, and annual events like the “peach festival”.

At the age of 18, she married the love of her life, Donald Mays who at the time was working on the Michael farm, which later became their home.

Nancy found happiness in simple things like reading, completing word searches, traveling, enjoying nature, watching the hummingbirds come in to feed, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Nancy will be remembered for her feisty nature, strong will, selflessness, penetrating blue eyes, and the values she instilled in her family, along with her many talents. She was a cook, gardener, baker, seamstress, knitter, crocheter, and decorator.

Survivors are her children, Donald Hugh Mays Jr., Barbara Mays Fitch, Nora Mays Saunders and husband Charles Saunders, along with her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Proceeded in death was her one love and husband Donald Hugh Mays Sr., her parents Edna and John Michael, along with her bothers, John, Ralph, and Earl Michael.
