Nola Jean Swope (Walker)

Nola J. Swope, 88, died Sunday, April 9, 2017 at ManorCare Kingston Court, York. She was the wife of Merle S. Swope and the late Curvin Dunnick. Viewings will be held from 7 to 9 pm Wednesday, April 12 at the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary Inc., 24 N. Second St. New Freedom, and from 10 to 11 am Thursday, April 13, at Bethlehem Steltz Reformed Church, 5890 Steltz Rd., Glen Rock. The funeral service will begin at 11 am Thursday with the Rev. John C. Dorr Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Born August 25, 1928 in Codorus Township, Nola was the daughter of the late Jerry and Jemina (Smith) Walker. Nola was formerly of New Freedom. She was a lifetime member of Bethlehem Steltz Reformed Church. She had worked at the former Charles G. Summers Jr., Inc., New Freedom, and Carman's Ice Cream, New Freedom. Nola enjoyed cooking, baking and helping people in their time of need. She loved spending time with her family and loved being "Nanny" to the grandchildren. Merle and Nola celebrated 45 years of marriage October 2, 2016. Nola is survived by two daughters, Gloria Boyer and husband, Robert of Hummelstown and Shirley Wright and husband, Michael of Seven Valleys. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Bryan Boyer, Jamie Fisher, Kristie Lebo, Allison Leiphart; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by four brothers, Maurice Walker, Earl Walker, Dewey Walker, Russell Walker, Sr.; and three sisters, Mabel Fisher, Viola Rohrbaugh and Elsie Walker.
