Nona R. Baughman (Klinefelter)

Nona Rae Baughman, 93, passed away peacefully at York Hospital on Monday, January 23, 2017. She was the beloved wife of the late C. Dean Baughman to whom she was married for 52 years. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. A MemorialService will begin 11 a.m. at the Mortuary. Her son-in-law, Charles F. Batzer, will be officiating. Inurnment will follow at the New Freedom Cemetery. Born February 9, 1923 in Railroad, she was the daughter of the late William L. and Emma C. (Bortner) Klinefelter. Nona lived in New Freedom most of her adult life and held various jobs at Charles G. Summers Jr., Inc., American Insulator Corp., Crescent Industries and most recently, AMP/Tyco. She was a lifelong member of Messiah Lutheran church in Railroad. Throughout her entire life her most important job was raising her four children and caring for her grandchildren. Nona was known, most of all, for her hard work and commitment to caring for others. Her grandchildren always looked forward to spending time with “Nana” and she loved nothing more than to care for each of them providing all the love and nurturing a grandmother was capable of giving. Nona is survived by her daughter, Susan J. Batzer and husband, Charlie; three sons, Dennis D. Baughman and his companion, Hien, Thomas K. Baughman and his wife, Lisa and Kerry E. Baughman. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by eight brothers and sisters. She often expressed her love for numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Her most precious memories include the family reunions that were often held at Glatco Lodge. The family would like to thank the staff of Senior Commons and York Hospital for the excellent and compassionate care they provided and all of Nona’s friends from Senior Commons for their friendship and companionship, especially Helen Doster.
