Prudence Mueller

January 27, 1929 — August 30, 2018

Prudence A. Mueller, 89 years, 7 months, departed York Hospital (YH) at 8:20 a.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2018, en route to her final teaching assignment at Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pa, via the Commonwealth’s Humanity Gifts Registry (HGR). There was no viewing. Born in Buffalo, NY on January 27, 1929, the year of the “Great Crash”, she lived her pre-teen years during the height of the depression and was a teenager during World War II when the entire country supported our Troops and the war effort, and scrap and war bond drives, rationing, Victory Gardens and air raid drills were a daily part of life. She was a graduate of the former Grover Cleveland High School and Buffalo State College (State University College at Buffalo; Bachelor’s, Elementary Education). She also attended the Joslin Clinic in Boston after the onset of diabetes in 1970. She was the wife of the late Harold J. Mueller, whom she met when he was working at Camp Otter in Ontario, Canada, and married on August 19, 1950. She first taught elementary school in Erie County, NY, and later completed her teaching career in Cayuga County after her 3 sons began their middle and secondary educations. Some of her volunteer activities included: Cub Scout Den Leader, the Garden Club of Endwell, the Retired Senior & Volunteer Program (RSVP), Auburn Memorial Hospital, and ushering with Harold at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse at Emerson Park. Her Passport wasn’t completely full, but now it’s unrestricted. Prudence was predeceased by her father in 1965, 2 younger brothers in the early 1970s, her mother in 1997 and her husband of 56 years on February 9, 2007. She is survived by her three Eagle Scout sons, Eric Mueller, US Army (Retired) (wife, Crystal), Seven Valleys, Pa.; Lance Mueller (wife, Debbie), Midway, Ga., and Rex Mueller, York, Pa; grandson / 4th generation veteran, Matthew Mueller, great-granddaughter Cecily and great-grandson Jasper, Brooklyn NY, and granddaughter, Melissa Mueller, Harrisburg, Pa. Upon return from the HGR, her cremains will be interred with her husband in Arlington National Cemetery. The family wishes to thank ALL of the excellent care providers that have watched over her over the last year, and especially Dr. Patel and the YH 5 North staff and ER staff.Thanks also go to the following doctors who cared for her since she came to York over a decade ago:Bobin, Chellia, Pasumarthy and Shears.Thanks also to the prayer teams at LWCC York.
