Raymond Francis Thompson, Jr., 80, of Stewartstown, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Raymond F., Sr. and Lilly V. (Shoop) Thompson. Raymond married the love of his life Carolyn Joyce (Webster) Thompson in 1963 and was devastated by her passing in February of 2023.

Raymond, Jr. is survived by his two children F. Annette (Skidmore) and Raymond Thompson, III, grandchildren Nathan, Patrick, and Megan Skidmore and Robert and Kaitlyn Thompson. Raymond, Jr. was also the great-grandfather of six great grandchildren.

Raymond, Jr. grew up near the old Memorial Stadium in the Waverly neighborhood of Baltimore City. He was a registered cabinetmaker working out of his own shop designing and creating beautiful wooden works of artistic cabinetry. Later, he was employed as a plant operations manager for Maryland General Hospital and Greater Baltimore Medical Center. Raymond, Jr., had a passion for medical technology and worked with General Electric installing and maintaining CT scan and MRI machines. Raymond enjoyed the outdoors and cherished camping with family in the mountains of Skyline Drive, Virginia. During the 1970’s, Raymond, Jr. was a Headmaster for the Boy Scouts of America Exploring Program and a B.S.A. Scoutmaster. Raymond, Jr. and his wife Carolyn were members of the Greenthumb Gardening Club of Red Lion, PA, the Crestmont Social Club and the Optimists Club. Raymond, Jr. enjoyed cooking. His favorite dish, Lasagna, was always a hit with family and friends. As a hobby and means of relaxation, Raymond, Jr. also was an avid model railroader.

Hartenstein Funeral and Cremation Care, Inc., 19 S. Main Street, Stewartstown, Pennsylvania is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in Raymond F. Thompson, Jr’s name to National Park Foundation.
