Richard G. McCullough

Richard Garland McCullough, 81, of Freeland, MD, passed away on August 23, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and a legacy built on faith, hard work, determination, family and laughter.

Born on July 12, 1945, Rich was the son of the late William and Evelyn (Hare) McCullough. He was a graduate of Hereford High School Class of 1964. He proudly joined the Army and then the National Guard.

For 57 years, Rich was a truck driver—a career that became such an important part of who he was. He spent 36 years driving over the road for American Tote, then 21 years for Goodyear and finally Service Tire Truck Centers. His travels took him through all 48 contiguous states, across Canada, and as far south as the Mexican border. He saw places most people only dream of.

When Rich wasn't behind the wheel of his tractor trailer, he could often be found pursuing some of the things he loved most. He had a collection of street rods. His beautiful red Chevy truck was well known around the community and became something of a signature of him. He also loved riding his Harley, the beach, fishing, and going to the races.

But perhaps what people will remember most about Rich was his incredible sense of humor. He was the life of the party—the kind of person who could walk into a room and make it more fun simply by being there. He loved to joke, tell stories, most importantly, make people laugh. His humor and larger-than-life personality left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He would say “having fun is what it’s all about”.

Rich's greatest pride, however, was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who worked hard throughout his life to provide for the people he loved.

Rich is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joanne F. McCullough (Tracey); his daughter, Jessica Martin, and her husband, Brett Martin; and his son, Justin McCullough, and his wife, Lauren McCullough. His sister Deanna McKelley, niece Lori Workinger and her husband, Kevin Workinger and many cousins. He was the proud grandfather of Presley, Cash, Cole, Camryn, and Avery, who brought tremendous joy to his life.

Rich will be remembered for the millions of miles he traveled, the street rods he loved, the motorcycle rides he enjoyed, the stories he told, and the laughter he brought wherever he went. But above all, he will be remembered for the love he gave his family and the unforgettable mark he left on the lives of those around him. He was one of a kind and will be deeply missed.

A graveside service will be held on September 12, 2026, 11:00 am at Middletown Cemetery (the corner of Middletown and Freeland Road). Parking will be across the street at Gunpowder Baptist Church, 20074 Middletown Rd, Freeland, Maryland 21053.

In honor of Rich’s love for street rods and motorcycles, the family invites those attending to bring their street rods, classic cars, and motorcycles in his memory. What better way to celebrate Rich than with the vehicles he loved gathered in his honor.
