Richard L. Troyer, 74, died Thursday, January 12, 2017, at the York Hospital. He was the loving husband of Joyce E. (Webb) Troyer and they celebrated 44 years of marriage in February 2016. There will be a memorial service on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, with the Rev. Ross Jones officiating. Interment is private. Born December 24, 1942, Richard was the son of the late Elwood and Daratha (Copenhaver) Troyer. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 - 1966, transferring to the Naval Reserves in 1963. Richard retired from Caterpillar of York in 1998 as a maintenance supervisor following 30 years of service. He was a member of the New Freedom V.F.W. Post 7012 and the Stewart American Legion Post 455. Richard was an avid outdoorsman and gardener. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four children, Richard L. Troyer, Jr. and his wife, Debby of Westminster, MD, Susan Martin and her husband, Mike of Finksburg, MD, Barry Lee Troyer and his wife, Julie of Dundalk, MD, and E. Dwayne Troyer and his wife, Wenona of Sahuarita, AZ.; five grandchildren; and two siblings, Steve Troyer and his wife, Cheryl, and Linda Fields and her husband, Edward, all of White Hall, MD. Richard was preceded in death by two brothers, William "Hope" Troyer and David Troyer; and one sister, Jane Cayce.
