Robert "Bob" Conway Martin, Jr., 62, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026. Born on February 16, 1963 in Arlington, VA to the late Robert C. Martin, Sr. and Violetta Jane (McBride).
Always up for an adventure, Bob enlisted in the Navy right after high school. He was honorably discharged after eight years during which he spent most of his time in Sigonella, Italy with the Helsuppron Four (helicopter squadron). His last duty station was with the Defense Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C.
Bob was proud of his government service, completing forty-four years in September 2025. After being discharged from the Navy in 1989, he began working in Contracts as a Navy civilian, first in Arlington and then near the Baltimore area. He successfully completed twenty-three years as a Senior Contracts Specialist.
Although a quiet person, Bob will be remembered for his dry wit and fierce loyalty to his family and friends. An avid sports lover, Bob could be seen (and heard) cheering on his beloved Bayern Munich "football" team. Bob also liked watching the Washington Capitals and Nationals play. Bob was an avid reader of history and loved keeping his mind challenged with various memory and trivia games.
A man of quiet, but devout Lutheran faith, Bob was involved in various church activities both at his home church in Arlington, Virginia and at Christ Lutheran Church in Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania. He could be found many Saturdays at the Mason Dixon restaurant engaged in lively banter and political conversations with church buddies.
Bob fought a three year battle with appendiceal cancer, which then metastasized to his peritoneum with dignity and strength.
Bob is remembered by his loving wife Kimberly Diehl Martin, to whom he had just celebrated their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary with a beautiful vow renewal ceremony in Charleston, S.C. Bob is also remembered by Cherie and Bill Meyer (sister & brother-in-law), Kate Meyer (niece), Verna Diehl (Aunt) and Suzy Beck (sister-in-law) as well as many friends.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church (105 S. Main St, Shrewsbury, PA 17361) at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 16, 2026, which happens to be Bob's 63rd birthday.
Inurnment will be held at the convenience of the family in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
Memorial Contributions can be made to: St. Jude Children's Hospital or Christ Lutheran Church Capital Improvement Fund.
