Rodney L Griest, 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
He was the husband of the late Betty V. Griest, who passed on March 9, 2017 after 62 years of marriage. Rodney was born in Adams County, PA and was the son of the late John P. Griest and Mae Ola (Coomes) Griest. Rodney is loved dearly by all those that knew him. He is survived by his daughters Rhonda L. Adams and husband Tom of Stewartstown, PA and Vickie L. Sutton and husband Jim of Phoenix, MD; grandchildren Erik Adams and wife Jennifer of Felton, PA, Wesley Adams and wife Megan of Vass, NC, Shane Adams and wife Elizabeth of Southern Pines, NC, Rebecca Schammel and husband Matt of Westminster, MD; great grandchildren Logan Adams and wife Christine, Madison Adams and boyfriend Josh Tuckey, Dawson Schammel and Harper Schammel. His sisters Betty McGuigan and Donna Ruppert, plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends we consider family. Rodney was preceded in death by his sisters, Lois (Catherine) Demo and Mary Keener.
A special thank you to his caretaker Lynn Boots, and his amazing neighbors Doreen Bapisteller and David McDowell for their constant care.
Rodney was a mechanic most of his life, working for John Walker Service Station, owner of his own small lawn tractor repair and shop, and shop supervisor at FES in Emigsville, where he retired. There isn't a farmer around that he did not know.
Rodney's most treasured things were his family. He enjoyed spending as much time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, whether it be fishing, traveling, hunting or just hanging out. He was a jack of all trades and taught us all very well.
Public viewing will be held at Hartenstein Funeral and Cremation Care, Inc., 19 S. Main Street, Stewartstown on Wed. February 11, 2026 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. A short service will be held at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor David McDowell officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Rodney's name to Eureka Volunteer Fire Department on their website at www.eureka54.org.
Rodney will be laid to rest next to his loving wife at a later date in a private family cemetery.
