Rosella Marie Albin

1940 — 2026

Parkton, MD

Rosella Marie Albin was born on April 19, 1940 to Jesse & Troy Philpot in Gandy, Nebraska. Her parents were one of the last generations of farmers. She was 15th of 16 children. The home she was born into was a dugout –a house dug into the side of a Nebraska Sandhill. She lived in Gandy until five and then was fostered to one of her older sisters for 2 years while her parents moved to Baudette MN and built a “Soddy”, a frontier house made of sod. Water came from a shallow well inside the house via a hand operated pump. Wood fired stoves & oven were used for heating & cooking.

Rose grew up and joined the army as one of the last groups of WACS. She met and married Roy Wilson Albin, her husband of 66 years, while stationed in Chicago. She & Roy moved to South Dakota and later to Maryland where Rosella graduated with a Bachelor of Education from Towson University. She taught kindergarten for many years.

Rosella had 2 children, Roy Gene Albin who survives her and Rosanne Marie Elizabeth Albin who died in 1984. She also raised her grandson Randolph James Wilson Albin and 14 Vietnamese and Pakistani foster children. Later Rosella & Roy sponsored many of their families into the US and all became citizens. She also helped several other Nephews and Nieces when they needed it including Donald Philpot.

During & After Teaching Rosella became an avid quilter hand quilting over 100 full sized quilts, scores of baby blankets and other smaller pieces. She and others started a club that ran more than 20 years and taught more than 20 people to learn to quilt.

Rosella is survived by her husband Roy Wilson Albin, a son Roy Gene Albin, a grandson, Randolph James Wilson Albin, two great grandsons, two sisters, nieces and nephews and 14 foster children.
