Shirley E. Green

Shirley E. (Calp) Green, 87, of Charlottesville, VA, and formerly of New Freedom, PA, entered God’s eternal care on Monday, May 4, 2026, at the Laurels of Charlottesville.

Born December 5, 1938, in Snydersburg, MD, she was the daughter of the late George Howard and Helen Rosella (Price) Calp. She was the loving wife of Kenneth Eugene “Gene” Green, with whom she shared 64 years of marriage until his death on May 2, 2019.

Shirley worked as an advertising coordinator for Apollo Ad Services, as well as the Shrewsbury Sewing Factory, and spent some time cleaning houses in her earlier days. Shirley was wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed baking and entertaining, traveling, making crafts at Christmastime, and was a lover of cats.

Shirley is survived by two daughters, Debra Green of Palmyra, VA, and Cynthia Ness & her husband Craig of Palmyra, VA, as well as one granddaughter, Tifany Ness Mulcahy & her husband Anthony of Union City, NJ. She is also survived by her sister, Joyce Miller of Red Lion, and sister-in-law, Roberta Freedman of York, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Shirley was predeceased by her bother Harold Calp.

A funeral service to celebrate and remember Shirley’s life will be held at 11 AM, Monday, May 11, 2026, at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N 2nd Street, New Freedom, PA 17349 with her nephew, Pastor Logan C. Miller officiating. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be from 10 AM until the start of the service. Burial procession will follow with interment in Bowser’s Cemetery, New Freedom.
