Shirley Louise Neal

Shirley L. Neal, 95, of New Freedom passed away Friday, December 18, 2020. She was the wife of the late Richard H. “Dick” Neal. Born in New Freedom, PA she was a daughter of the late Frank Wilson and Clara Elizabeth (Bailey) Mohar. Shirley graduated from New Freedom High School, Class of 1943.She worked for American Insulator Corporation, First National Bank of York and then Weyerhaeuser Corporation, retiring after 23 years of service. After her retirement she became the first secretary of Southern Regional Police Commission. She was a member of Women’s Club of New Freedom and of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was involved in various activities, including the annual Christmas Bazaar, making candy and apple dumplings.She was a life member of Ladies Auxiliary, Rose Fire Co. No. 1 in New Freedom. Shirley enjoyed playing cards, golfing with her husband, reading mystery novels, jigsaw puzzles, knitting and playing piano. She is survived by her daughter Suzanne B. Neal and son Jeffrey L. Neal and his wife Sandy; granddaughter Sarah M. Neal; numerous nieces and nephews and her beloved cat Callie. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Robert Mohar and his wife Norma.
