Theresa M. Proffitt

Theresa M. Proffitt, 91, of Stewartstown, PA, formerly of Baltimore, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at Misericordia Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in York, PA. Theresa was born on October 23, 1933 in Braddock, PA to the late Stanley and Mary (Misterka) Wozniak. She was the loving wife to the late A. Dale Proffitt who passed in 2009.

She was a graduate of Patterson High School in Baltimore and retired from the Baltimore City Public School system in 1990.

Theresa is survived by her daughter, Kathryn P. Hartman and her husband William of Stewartstown, PA; her son, David P. Proffitt and his wife Judtih of Spring City, PA; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Hartman, Leslie Proffitt, Thomas Proffitt, and Kathryn Proffitt-Kophart; four great-grandchildren, Lilina, Evelyn, Madelyn, and Vivian; and her sister, Mary Lynne Spinko and her husband Richard of Richardson, TX. She is also remembered by her very special, long-time companion Curtis Houghton; and special friends and caregivers, Stephanie Moore and Janice Elsen. She was preceded in death by her husband A. Dale Proffitt; two sisters and a brother.

A viewing will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2025 from 3-5pm & 7-9pm at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 19 S. Main St., Stewartstown, PA 17363. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, September 15 at 11am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, PA 17349. Interment will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery.
