Timothy D. Swingler, Sr.

Timothy Dale Swingler Sr, of Gettysburg, PA, passed away peacefully on January 3rd 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Formerly of Shrewsbury PA, he was the loving husband to Nancy Swingler, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his son Tim Jr; daughter Kimberly Caple; and his six grandchildren: Andrew, Cameron, Rachel, Brooke, Sarah and Natalie along with his great-grandson Sullivan.

Tim was born on April 4th, 1948 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Earl Andrew Swingler Sr. and Vala Jean Bremer Swingler.

He attended Perry Hall High School before joining the United States Navy in 1967 where he was an Anti-Submarine Warfare Technician for Air Patrol Squadron 48 during Vietnam. He attended night classes at York College and obtained a bachelor’s degree in computer science from York College in 1989. Tim dedicated his professional career working for NASA and Defense contractors as a Systems Engineer assigned to various high-profile programs.

In the late 90’s Tim alongside his wife, opened The Joy Garden at their home estate. This Victorian Garden was complemented by a Conservatory designed and built by Tim to serve tea to the community. For over 16 years, The Joy Garden was a sanctuary to celebrate life’s special moments in spiritual setting.

The Family will have a public viewing on Wednesday January 7th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church located at 74 E Forrest Ave, Shrewsbury, PA. A second viewing will also be held on Thursday January 8th from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon followed by a Celebration of Life Service at Grace Fellowship Church. A burial with military honors will take place at New Freedom Cemetery immediately after the service.
