Wendy Sue Overmiller Spenla, 56, lost her long, courageous battle with kidney disease on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at her residence in Kemp, Texas. She leaves her husband, Anthony Spenla, to whom she was married for five years.
Wendy was born on September 26, 1969, in York, Pennsylvania to Roger H. Overmiller and Sandra M. Breeden (Niemi) and was a graduate of Red Lion Area Senior High School, Class of 1987.
She proudly served her country in the United States Air Force and later worked at Flight Systems, finding time to volunteer at a local animal shelter. Wendy had a kind and generous spirit, with a deep and genuine love for animals.
Wendy cherished spending time with her family and especially loved being with her dogs. She had a big heart, was fiercely loyal, and touched the lives of those around her with her compassion and warmth.
In addition to her loving husband, and her parents, she is survived by her sister, Denise Overmiller and partner, Shawn Spock, her in-laws, Michael and Patricia Spenla; stepfather, Elmer Breeden; her stepsister, Mandy Breeden; her stepdaughters, Victoria Spenla and Talya Spenla; her stepsons, Trystan Spenla and Christian Spenla; her step grandson, Noah Service; her niece and husband, Rachael (Troxell) and David Pritchard; and her nephews, Andrew Troxell and Benjamin Troxell; sister-in-law and husband, Michele (Spenla) and David Bentoski: aunt, uncle and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Nancy Overmiller.
Wendy will be remembered for her strength, resilience, and the unconditional love she gave to her family and the animals she so deeply cared for. Her presence will be greatly missed and forever cherished by all who knew her.
A graveside service for immediate family will be held on July 10, 2026, at Stewartstown Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the ASPCA in her honor.
