Leonard L. Hendrix

July 4, 2020

Leonard L. Hendrix, 78, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2020. He was the loving husband of Gladys (Smith) Hendrix and they celebrated 56 years of marriage on November 16. Born in Baltimore County, Maryland, Leonard was the son of the late Clarence and Myrtle (Sipe) Hendrix. Leonard worked for the New Freedom Borough for over thirty-six years, first in the maintenance department and later managing the waste water treatment plant. He had the gift of conversation and enjoyed conversing with just about everyone. He loved fishing and being on the water, was very mechanically inclined, and loved riding the Steam Into History train. Leonard was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who dearly loved his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Surviving in addition to his wife are three children: Wayne A. Hendrix and his wife, Penny of New Freedom, Karen E. Weaver and her husband, Michael of Hellam, and Megan D. Hendrix, and her fiancé, Stephen Cohen of Ohio; two grandchildren, Jaidyn and Jenna; and a brother, Alfred Hendrix of Ohio. He was preceded in death by four siblings: Catherine Gordon, Marlin Hendrix, Marian DeVoe, and Guy Hendrix. Services are private and at the convenience of his family.
