Doris R. Walter

Doris R. (Turnbaugh) Walter, 97, passed away on Friday, December 24, 2021. She was the wife of the late Carl H. Walter to whom she was married 44 years. Born in Timonium, MD, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Emma Caroline (Wolfe) Turnbaugh. Doris was preceded in death by her two brothers, Albert W. Turnbaugh and John L. Turnbaugh. She drove a school bus in Baltimore County for 32 years. She attended St. John’s Lutheran Church in Phoenix (Sweet Air), MD, where she loved to play the organ as a young adult. She was also a full-time organist at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church in Timonium. Doris enjoyed playing the organ well into her 90s. She was fond of crocheting, baking, and cooking; she dearly loved her family and cherished everything she was able to do with them. Doris is survived by her three daughters, Judith Ann Benner and her husband, William of Millersville, PA, Terry R. Kernan and her husband, Charles of Glen Rock, PA, and Laurie B. “Muffy” Irons of South Lyon, MI; 7 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Doris was lovingly known as ‘Gam’ by her grandchildren and will be dearly remembered and missed by all who knew her. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to a viewing from 1- 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 2, 2022, at Hartenstein Funeral & Cremation Care, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, PA 17349. A funeral service will begin at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment is private and at the convenience of her family at St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Phoenix, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Doris's memory to: St. John's Lutheran Church, " Chapel Fund" via online at www.stjohnssweetair.org.
